Promoting on Facebook groups? Waste of time?

Hi guys!
So today I will show you how to promote your website on Facebook groups and I will tell you why I believe that it is a total waste of time in the beginning.

I lost a week on trying to promote my website on Facebook groups. I reached a lot of people but very few engaged. I haven’t paid for any ads and I just shared a few pages to my Facebook page of the website and from there I shared them automatically on some Facebook groups which I joined.

Why is promoting your website on Facebook groups a waste of time?

Well the problem was that I ended up spending a few hours in sharing my content and to my Fb page and to those groups. I joined around 15-20 groups relevant to MMO(Make money online) methods.

The bad thing was that most of those groups were a dead end from the beginning, but I was too stupid to realize that. Those were mainly groups with over 20k members.

20k members sounds good, right?

Well not really, because I believe that around 90% of those members were other MMO veterans that were trying to promote their methods(mostly scams) of earning money online. You know it is a lose of time when you see that people are posting new methods of earning money online from 2 to 2 minutes.

Unfortunately, your posts will easily get lost in this ocean of spams. In order for you to see a few results, you will have to invest a lot of time in order to share your content. The results will rarely outweigh the time spent.

So my results?

I know the results are for the whole month from 07 Mar to 03 Apr, but as you can see I started promoting my Fb page on the mid of March, more specifically on 15th March and I ended somewhere on 20 or 21 of March. It took me around 5 or 6 days to realize that I am just losing my time promoting my posts and website on those groups

Yes, 2300 people reached sounds amazing, but from reaching them to engaging them into visiting your website is a long road. As you can see I have around 253 people engaged but around 30-40 of them is just me sharing the posts to different groups.

I wrote both in a professional manner and in a more “humane” manner, but still my biggest challenge was that my posts got lost into the amount of spam caused by other people promoting their methods.

How to engage people in those type of groups?

Well I think that the easiest way is to talk to an admin to pin your post. But we both know that this will not happen for free. Depending on your niche, you could offer them a product for free, for example something you make: an e-book, a service etc. You could also offer them money or perhaps you can advertise their Facebook group on your website.

I haven’t done any of those yet because I focus more on creating content on my website. Another way on getting more engagement is to create an e-book about something useful. For example if you are in the website building niche you can search on Google the most profitable niches in 2016 and 2017 and write about 50 or 100 of them. Turn your article in a pdf and then advertise on a group. It should look something like:

“Greetings, everyone!

Get ahead your competition and learn what are the 100 most profitable niches in 2017! Check my post here -> Your Website . com ”

Moreover, if you decide and do this, you can use a plugin in order for your visitor to have to subscribe to your e-mail list in order to download your free pdf. Therefore, you get both Fb engagement and new subscribers to your e-mail list. That’s two birds hit with one stone.

Basically, write useful or interesting information and leave your website there. Don’t even try to write something like: Learn how to earn $1000  per day or Learn how to lose 15 pounds in 1 week. Those are usually seen as scams and most people will avoid them.

I didn’t advertise only in those large groups. I also joined in groups with members between 1000 to 5000. However, in order to get the attention of those folks you can’t enter the group and start spamming. First you have to gain their trust. Ask them relevant questions, what they like, what methods they trust etc. After 3-4 weeks you can start and advertise your website, but beware and instead of writing something like: “Hey check out how you can lose 10 kgs in 7 days” you can simply say something like “Hey guys! I have found a great diet and lost more than 5 kgs in a week. Here you can take a look->” or “Hey guys! I just reviewed an awesome diet that helped me lose 5 kg in one week. Can you tell me your opinion about it here?”

My advice?

Stop wasting precious time on advertising and focus more on content creation. At least in the first five to six months you should focus more on content creation. As a general rule, you should aim to have at least 100 posts and pages on your website.
