Can you “re-target” your posts?

Hi, guys!

Today I am going to discuss about what should you do if you want to retarget your posts or if you want to target customers with your post.

Ok, so the main question is the following: Once I have created a post and a few months went by, can I change the main keyword/ add a main keyword, without having any penalties from Google and the other search engines?

Usually,  we start to create content on what we think that our customers want. Sometimes we might be far away from the truth and to only be able to realize it only after months. Maybe at some point in time, you might want to even convert your blog posts which are not targeting anything into posts which will bring you traffic.

Losing the post rank is our main concern. However, you should not worry about that. Let me tell you why:

The search engines want from us to keep our posts updated. The more frequent we update our posts, the better. We can update them either by adding a new paragraph or by receiving comments(they are part of the post as well), or even by modifying what we already wrote.

Modifying what we already wrote? Well doesn’t this mean exactly what we want to do? Basically, we want to change our main keyword with a better one. Therefore, we need to modify it in the first paragraph, the h2 or h4 from the middle of the paragraph and the keyword in the last paragraph.

We are actually encouraged to frequently update our posts. Therefore, you should not worry that if you change your main keyword, your rank will suffer. Quite the contrary, it will increase.

Okay, but what about the link? Should you change the link as well?

Definitely. However, if you decide to change the link, all the other core links or backlinks that you might have, will now point to the old URL and therefore generate an error when someone will try to access them.

In order to prevent this,  you can use the Pretty Link plugin. You can see a tutorial on it here: Pretty Link.

That’s all on our subject today, guys! Hope it helped you out. If you have any questions feel free to share them with me in the comment section below!
